Welcome to a Boy’s Story

Posted under Uncategorized by admin on Tuesday 15 December 2009

Welcome to A Boy’s Story. This is the place where The Healing Crossroads began. This is my story.

I’m Bob Adam and I’m a psychotherapist. I’m a survivor of incest and had post traumatic stress. Creating A Boy’s Story helped me make sense of my life and helped me heal from post traumatic stress. The way I experienced post traumatic stress was that I often felt angry, isolated, numb and afraid. I didn’t understand why I felt that way. I just felt crazy. I tried many therapies and some worked better than others. I always felt that there was something missing, something disappointing in talk therapy.

Therapy helped me understand why I felt afraid. I had been traumatized – that’s why I felt afraid. What I wanted from therapy was to learn how to heal – how to become less afraid, angry, numb and isolated. I went to school and became a therapist. I learned about talk therapy but still didn’t find the answer I was looking for. I wanted to know how to heal myself. For many years I struggled to organize my thoughts, feelings and memories so I could create A Boy’s story in a way that could make sense. When I finished A Boy’s Story I found people could relate to it and I felt better because I could relate to myself. By telling my story I felt less isolated and less crazy. Learning how to tell my story and interact with other people who also experienced trauma was the beginning of the Healing Crossroads. I still had a long way to go to create all the components to complete the Healing Crossroads.

Since the beginning of A Boy’s Story, people have been writing me thanking me for telling a story that made sense to them, a story that was like their own stories of being traumatized, hurt and isolated. In A Boy’s Story I showed how to survive trauma but I still didn’t show how to heal. The solution was to create The Anatomy of Emotional Healing which is a self healing guide, a DVD series that teaches how to encounter, understand, soothe and heal powerful emotion in the body. The Anatomy of Emotional Healing took me years as a therapist to produce. Now that I can show people how to heal trauma and post traumatic stress, I can create a broader social healing network which is The Healing Crossroads. The Healing Crossroads is a group of websites that brings people together to share stories of surviving trauma.
